boozy strawberry lemonade

Is it just me or does summer feel like it’s coming to an end already? It’s a beautiful day here today, but that fall crispness is already in the air when the wind blows. I’m ready for it though, I love fall…just as long as winter doesn’t rush in too quickly behind it.

Happy Thirsty Thursday!

dill caesar

Happy Canada Day!!

I’m pretty sure it’s against some kind of national law not to have a Caesar on Canada Day. Go with the tried and true Classic Caesar or give this variation using dill pickles and pickle juice a try. Cheers, eh!

blue & dew

Blue & Dew a.k.a. Rev‘s subtle little sister. It’s got the kick of caffeine from the Mountain Dew, but not quite the double punch of the Rev which also contains guarana to get you going. When you’re making this cocktail be sure to put the full amount of UV Blue or you don’t get the right flavour. And let’s not forget to mention the awesome colour…I wonder if it glows under a blacklight?

throwback thursday – vodka tasting

This pic is from our vodka tasting at the cottage last year. This was a painful experience and something I swore I would never do again, and I like vodka! We are up at the cottage for the next 2 weeks and somehow I’ve been talked into participating in a gin tasting next week. I can hardly wait *note sarcasm here*. Maybe this experience will give me a greater appreciation for gin…or not.

To be continued…

dirty shirley temple

As a kid I LOVED Shirley Temples. They are very nostalgic for me, they were a special treat when I’d get to go out for dinner with my Dad to The Cat’s Caboose (super cool restaurant inside a train!). So, when I saw this recipe on Pinterest (for which the link no longer works) I had to try it. I made them on my Mom’s actual birthdate and served them in my late Grandma’s vintage glasses; we had Dirty Shirleys in Shirely’s glasses :)

IRS blues martini

Happy National Martini Day!

“…Although the exact origin of the martini is unknown, this iconic drink has earned a permanent place in the pantheon of classic cocktails. The first printed recipe for a “Martinez” cocktail appeared in a bartending manual published in San Francisco in 1887. However, historians disagree over whether the beverage actually originated on the West Coast. In 1911, a New York City bartender named Martini di Arma di Taggia began serving a cocktail made with gin, vermouth, orange bitters, and an olive garnish. The martini gained widespread popularity among Manhattan socialites, and has been associated with New York ever since. Today, 50% of all cocktails are served in a martini glass. Some of the most famous (historical and fictional) martini lovers include: John D. Rockefeller, Humphrey Bogart, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Clark Gable, Ernest Hemingway, and James Bond.” – www.punchbowl.com

Martinis have always felt like a winter drink to me (so expect plenty of recipes come late fall/early winter), but none the less today is National Martini Day so in honour of that here is the a martini I had a few weeks ago at my Mom’s house. We got to be the ‘guniea pigs’ for her ‘girls martini weekend’ recipes. This one was my fave!

hardcore candy bar

If you’re a lover of chocolate liqueur or Frangellico than this is the drink for you! If you’re not, than you’re going to want to just skip right on past this recipe! LOL! I really had no idea what to do with candy bar flavoured alcohol so I went right to the the UV website for this one. It has 4 kinds of alcohol in it and only calls for a splash of cola (as you can see I added a little more), so it definitely lives up to its name of being “hardcore”…try it if you dare!
